Custom Gift Boxes

A customer came to us with a beautiful challenge: he'd hand-engraved some stunning knives and wanted to present them in equally impressive custom boxes. His wish list included dovetail corners, custom-fitted inserts to cradle the knives, and a natural wood finish.

Dovetails are gorgeous—but here's where craftsmanship meets reality. Given the box's proportions, we pivoted to box joints instead, which deliver that same handmade appeal without the structural strain. Smart trade-off, and the customer was all in.

Then came the wood selection: Black Walnut. We pulled material with visible sapwood—that lighter grain you see running through the boxes—and the contrast between heartwood and sapwood was exactly what this project needed. The customer loved it too, and it became a signature detail of the final design.

We're grateful to the Lord and the customer for the opportunity to bring this vision to life, and we're betting those friends absolutely loved unwrapping both the knives and the boxes they came in.
